Mem Ararat

The quiet poet of today’s Kurmancî song.

Region
Bakur (Serhed)

Mem Ararat is one of the most listened-to Kurmancî singers of the current generation. Rooted in the Serhed region of Bakur, his work stands apart from wedding-floor repertoire: slow, literary, orchestral songs in which the lyric carries as much weight as the melody. His albums travel across borders through streaming platforms, and his search and streaming numbers place him at the very top of contemporary Kurdish music. Ararat represents a newer current in Kurdish song: intimate rather than declamatory, and written for headphones as much as for halls.
