Aynur

Aynur, born in 1975 in the Dêrsim region, is the internationally best-known female Kurdish singer of her generation. Her 2004 song Keçê Kurdan became an anthem for Kurdish women and brought her both fame and censorship attempts. She has since carried Kurdish music onto the world stage, collaborating with masters of Anatolian, classical and jazz music and appearing in major concert halls and festivals across Europe and beyond. Her voice, at once fragile and unbreakable, has become one of the recognizable sounds of Kurdish identity abroad.
